Editorial policy

Živalce.si is an informational portal about pet breeds and pet care in Slovenian, Croatian and English. This page openly describes how our content is created, how we choose sources and how we correct mistakes.

Who edits Živalce.si

The portal is run by the Živalce.si team (publisher details are listed in the terms of use). Content is prepared and reviewed by the portal's editorial team. Where no individual author is named, the author is the Živalce.si Editorial Team — the content is the result of an editorial process rather than a single signed expert.

How we pick topics

We choose topics based on the practical questions pet owners face: choosing a suitable breed, grooming, nutrition, training and health. We take into account questions received through our contact form and gaps we notice in existing content.

How we verify facts

Important facts are checked against several independent sources. Breed standards are summarised from official breed associations. Numeric data (life expectancy, size, weight) is compared across sources; where they disagree, we state a range rather than a single "exact" number.

Source policy

When choosing sources, priority goes to:

• veterinary faculties and universities,
• scientific publications,
• official government institutions,
• recognised veterinary organisations,
• reputable animal-welfare organisations,
• official breed associations (for breed standards).

Health and nutrition claims must be based on verifiable sources. Where useful, we state the access date next to a source. We check that links work. We avoid sources without clear authorship; online shops, pet-food manufacturers and affiliate sites are not our primary expert sources. Wikipedia can be a starting point for an overview, but it is not the primary source for a health or nutrition claim.

In our content we distinguish between a fact (supported by a source), a recommendation (widely accepted good practice) and an editorial assessment (our judgement, e.g. how demanding a breed is).

Health content

All content on Živalce.si is informational. It does not replace an examination, diagnosis or advice from a veterinarian. If your animal has a health problem, always consult a vet.

Updating content

We extend and update our content. The "Updated" date on an article changes only when the content itself genuinely changes. Minor typographic and technical fixes do not change the date of the content review.

Corrections

If you spot an error, you can report it via the "Report an error" button, via the contact form or at info@zivalce.si. Please include the page address (URL), a description of the error and, if possible, a source confirming it.

The editorial team verifies every report against quality sources. Justified corrections are published as soon as possible; for significant content corrections we also update the article's modification date.

Use of automation and AI

We may use automated tools, including AI tools, for research, structuring and drafting content. The following always applies:

• every published piece of content goes through an editorial review before publication,
• health and nutrition claims in machine-assisted drafts are based on verifiable sources,
• AI is not an expert source in itself and is never cited as one.
