Maribor Animal Shelter on Avtomobilska ulica is run by Snaga d.o.o. (Maribor public holding) for the City of Maribor and over twenty contracted municipalities. It takes in abandoned and lost dogs and cats and rehomes them; animals for adoption are shown online. Visits Monday–Saturday 12.30–14.30 by appointment.

Zonzani in Jarmovec near Dramlje combines an animal shelter, a small-pet hotel and veterinary services. As a registered shelter it takes dogs and cats from contracted municipalities of the Savinjska region; animals for adoption, the adoption procedure and lost-pet reporting are online. Visits by appointment only.
Zavod Muri in Vransko is an animal welfare institute running a registered shelter for abandoned cats, and per its website also dogs. It offers adoptions with an adopter questionnaire, sponsorship, care for owned animals and awareness work, funded partly by a web shop and donations.
