Glamour Shine Retrievers Verified
Glamour Shine Retrievers is a Croatian kennel breeding Golden, Flat-Coated and Labrador Retrievers, run by Marijana Račić in the village of Habjanovac near Vrbovec, about 40 km from Zagreb. FCI-registered since 2008 (no. 141/08), it has bred Golden Retrievers since 2009, imported its first Flat-Coated Retriever from the Czech Republic in 2018 and also breeds Labradors. The dogs live with the family on a 7,500 m² property by the forest, four kilometres from the nearest lake. All breeding dogs are tested for hip and elbow dysplasia, eyes and heart (Labradors also genetically for CNM, EIC and HNPK) and have passed the natural-aptitude test; bitches have their first litter after 20 months of age and at most four litters. Puppies leave at 8.5–9 weeks microchipped, twice vaccinated, dewormed four times and socialised with children, adults and other dogs, with an HKS pedigree, EU passport, a two-year health guarantee on hips, elbows, eyes and heart and lifelong support; co-ownership and, occasionally, adult dogs are also offered. Glamour Shine dogs live in 35 countries and several are international (C.I.B.) and national champions.

How to choose a responsible breeder
- Visit the litter. See the puppies or kittens at the breeder's, with their mother, where they are raised. A breeder who only offers delivery or a car-park handover is not a good choice.
- Ask for the paperwork. A pedigree (FCI, or FIFe/WCF for cats), a pet passport with vaccinations and microchip, and a sales contract. A puppy must not leave before 8 weeks of age.
- Ask about the parents' health tests. For breeds with known hereditary conditions (hips, eyes, heart, genetic tests) the breeder should show the parents' results, not just assurances.
- Check the breeding conditions. How many litters a year, how many breeds, how the animals are socialised. A responsible breeder has few litters and many questions for you.
- Watch for warning signs. Always "in stock", several breeds at once, pressure to pay quickly, no contract or no visit allowed.
- Consider adoption too. Shelters and rescues also have purebred animals waiting; the shelter directory is on Živalce.si.
