Until now Živalce.si was known mostly for its breeds and guides. Today it gains what pet owners look for most in practice: where the nearest vet is, who will groom the dog, where to board it during the holidays and whom to turn to when an animal needs a new home. This guide briefly shows all the new features and how to use them – on a computer and on a phone.
- Six provider directories: grooming salons, dog schools, vets, pet hotels and boarding, shelters and breeders – all under the new Services menu.
- "Near me": one click shows providers of every kind within 10, 25 or 50 km of you or of a chosen town.
- A map in every directory: every provider with a known location on one map; clicking a pin highlights the listing.
- A page for every provider: address, phone, e-mail, website, opening hours, services and directions to the door.
- New Explore page: search, animals, directories and guides in one place – on phones also in the bottom bar.
- Breeders beyond dogs: the breeders directory also covers cats, parrots, rabbits, rodents, fish and terrarium animals.
The Services menu: six directories in one place
The main menu has a new item, Services. It opens the list of all directories: Grooming salons, Dog schools, Vets, Pet hotels and boarding, Shelters and Breeders. Vets, hotels and shelters are brand new; salons, schools and breeders have gained many more entries and new details such as opening hours and logos.
Every directory works the same way: a search box for name, town or keyword at the top, filters on the left (service, country, which animals are accepted) and a list or map on the right. Entries with a Verified tick are those whose details the provider has confirmed.
Near me: providers around you
The fastest route to a provider is the new Near me feature. You find it on the Explore page and at the top of every directory. Click Use my location and allow the browser to access your location, or simply type a town, for example "Kranj".
The result is a list of providers of every kind, sorted by distance, with a map alongside. The buttons at the top limit the radius to 10, 25 or 50 km or pick a single kind, for example vets only. Each row has icons for call, e-mail and directions – the last opens the route in Google Maps.
A map in every directory
In every directory the List / Map switch takes you to the map. It shows every provider with a known location, not just those on the current page. Clicking a pin highlights the matching listing; if the listing is on another page of the list, the map takes you there. The cards beside the map are compact – name, place, opening hours and contacts – and the description opens with the arrow.
The provider page: everything in one place
Every listing now has its own page – reach it through the More about the provider link on the card. It shows the address, phone, e-mail, website and opening hours, the description, the list of services, a small map with buttons for Google Maps and OpenStreetMap, and a Directions button that takes you to the door.
For providers: free listing and editing
If you run a salon, school, practice, hotel, shelter or kennel, a directory listing is free – no subscription, no obligations. The listing page carries a box Are you the owner of this listing? through which you complete or correct the details; confirmed listings get the Verified badge. A new provider is submitted through the List your business link at the top of every directory.
Explore: one page for everything
The new Explore page is the starting point for everything Živalce.si offers: search across breeds, animals, guides and places, the Near me box, seven animal groups with their breed counts, all six directories and the latest guides by category.
On the phone: four tabs at the bottom
On phones the bottom bar has been redesigned: Home, Animals, Explore and Corner. Search and guides have moved under Explore, where they are always one tap away. Directory cards on phones are more compact, with four large buttons for call, e-mail, website and directions.
Breeders of every kind of animal
The breeders directory is no longer dogs only. Catteries and breeders are linked to the breeds in the encyclopedia, so you also find them on the breed page: Maine Coon catteries on the Maine Coon page, a budgerigar breeder on the budgerigar page, a reptile breeder on the ball python page. The breed encyclopedia has gained new breeds at the same time – among them the Thai cat, the Gordon Setter, the Cairn Terrier and the Međimurje Dog.

Frequently asked questions
Does Near me work without location permission?
Yes. Instead of the Use my location button, type a town into the "or type a town" field and click Show; the result is the same.
Why is a provider missing from the map?
The map only shows providers with a published exact address. Providers who do not publish an address stay in the list with their town.
How do I correct the details of my listing?
On the listing page click Edit listing in the "Are you the owner of this listing?" box, or write to us at info@zivalce.si. Listing is free.
Do the new features also work in the Slovenian and Croatian editions?
Yes. All directories, nearby search, maps and provider pages are available in Slovenian, Croatian and English; the Croatian edition shows providers in Croatia by default.
